A welcome message is indeed possible on VM Lite!
Route the calls to a new group (here called "Welcome")
Setting in "Welcome":
(Huntgroup tab)
Name: Welcome
Number: (Your pick

)
No Answer time: empty
Overflow time: App. the lenght of the welcome message
User list: Empty
Overflow group list: one or more agent groups.
(Voicemail tab)
Remember to set a code.
All else should remain unchecked, including voicemail
(Fallback tab)
Set your time profile and fallback groups
set this group to "In Service"
(Queuing tab)
Set "Queuing On"
Set"Queue Ring time" to 1
Clear the "Queuing Limit" field
All calls to this group will now get the first queue message, and then be passed on to one or more agent groups. So when this groups first queue message has been recorded as a welcome message, all should be perfect

If the call is passed on before the message is finished, then adjust the "Queue Ring time" a bit.
If you need a night message, then use either "Voicemail" or "Queue message" on the night service group.
