For some reason, Excel thinks that "bottom" is a good default setting for the vertical alignment of cells. I disagree, and would much prefer "top". Is there a way to change the default setting? I already created a book.xlt template for new worksheets, which puts the initial alignment to "top". But even then, when I "clear all" across a certain range, the formatting goes right back to bottom-aligned. Very annoying.

Rob,
have you tried to modify the alignment in Normal style in your template?

Excellent! That did the trick. I use styles in Word all the time, but really haven't figured them out in Excel. Thanks.
