Using Excel on dual monitors 1

How the heck can I use excel on BOTH of my dual monitors? Not spread across them, but in 2 separate windows? Once in awhile this happens, and it's great. But most times I am limited to just one window of excel, even if I have like 5 different files open. I would love to be able to open 2 spreadsheets...drag one to Monitor 1, and drag the other to Monitor 2.

I know this can be done b/c it accidentally happens to me sometimes.

Open Excel twice. Place the first on monitor 1 and the second opened Excel on monitor 2. Then open files according to where you want to view the file.

Or, in one instance of Excel, set "Windows in Taskbar" on (Tools > Options)

Opening as two instances allows me to have separate spreadsheets on each screen fine, however I often have to copy -> Paste Special Values from one spreadsheet to another, and if I have them open as 2 instances this isn't possible, as Excel tries to insert the copied data as an object - it seems to think that it has come from a different program, rather than a separate instance of the same program. Anyone got a workaround for this?

Open one instance of Excel and 2 workbooks. Do not maximize the workbook window. Drag one workbook to the 2nd moniter and size it to fit that monitor. Do the same with the 1st workbook on the 1st monitor.

I tried that method first, excel won't allow me to drag windows onto the second monitor as some other programs do; the window I'm dragging just disappears. Any other ideas?

Sounds like some thing strange with your set up. I run two monitors, and use Excel like this every day (and am doing so now as we speak). I have Excel not maximised, then drag across and up/down to fill both screens, and then simply tile the open workbooks, or even use Window/New Window and then tile those.

Hang on - Are you trying to drag the windows across without having sized Excel to fill both screens?

You need to size Excel as per my last post, and then drag the windows about. the windows are within Excel, so will dsappear at your Excel application boundary.

I didnt have excel sized to take up both screens. Doing so allows using onw indow on each screen.
