I currently run a Merlin Legend R7 with about 115 users. I am going to be purchasing an IP Office IP500 in the near future. I don't have the budget for a complete replacement of the Legend, so I am going to buy the IP500 with about 15 IP phones to start. Does anyone have any idea on how I could interface the IP Office to the Legend for inter-system calling and utilize the T1 off of the Legend of phone line access? I was thinking of just interfacing analog trunk and station ports. It's not pretty, but might work. If anyone else has done this, please advise.

Thanks in advance.

you can try it
but i think doing it with pri is better
you can do it then by qsig
you can re use the pri card for later when the system is going to be used fully loaded

Thanks for the quick reply. I would need to add a T1 card to the Legend, do you know what type of card would support this.

Also, do you some further ideas on how the interface would work? I would have no idea where to begin on programming the IP Office/Legend. Perhaps there is some documentation on the web...

Thanks jml2665.

If anyone else has any input or has interfaced a Legend to an IP Office, feel free to add to this post.

Thanks.

JS. The job aid spells it out pretty well. I did try it on the bench here. But you do not get the same features/functionality as an SCN. Ex: no centralised VM Pro.

The legend will require a DS1 board

Thanks, all. I'll give it a shot.

Also, according to the AVAYA ATAC, I also need a CSU/DSU to connect to the Legend.

Here is what you do ... i've done this exact thing.
You need a trunk card in the ip office. Connect the trunk ports to analog station ports on the legend. If your extensions are say 100's ... create a trunk group in the ip office that is a unique number ... lets say 50. Make a short code the says 1xx, Dial, 1N, Line group 50. That gives you an ext dial. To dial over the PRI in the legend ... Create a short code of 9N, Dial, 9N, line group 50.

Jason:

Thanks. It seems very clear now how to dial extensions from the IP Office over to the Legend. Is it also possible to get dialtone off of the Legend (the Legend has a T1 connected to the pstn and the IP Office will have no trunks connected)? Do I need a unique IP Office shortcode to get dialtone off of the Legend?

Thanks again.

Remember in the Legend you will have to create the IP Office extensions in the non-local UDP table. Once they are there you can dial the IP Office extensions from the legend.
