two questions about Excel

I am new to this forum and look forward to the obvious expertise represented here. I have two basic questions:
1) How can I lock the cells that are displayed in a worksheet. I have a background set and do not want it to look like it is wallpaper. I just want the first instance to show.
2) I want to control the size of a comment that I am creating in a macro. I cannot seem to do it based on what recording a macro shows.

Hi,

You can lock cells with these two steps...

1) Format/Cells/Protection - Check the Locked check box.

2) Tools/Protection/Protect Sheet.

The first instance of WHAT?

Please post the code that you recorded for you comments.

Thanks for the reply, Skip.
I knew about the protection lock but it seems I remember opening a worksheet one time that the size was locked and not just the manipulation of the cells.

If you go to Format, Sheet, Background and insert a JPG, it will be painted onto the spreadsheet like HTML background and repeat vertically and horizontally. I have not found a way to just paint it once or, like described above, lock the size of the sheet.

There seems to be no way to resize the pic within Excel. So this appears to be the choices...

1) resize the pic to fit in some other application, saveas and use that pic.

or

2) Reduce the size of the Excel window to fit the pic.

in answer to your query:

to get this effect, do Tools/Protection/Protect Workbook and tick the Windows checkbox.
