trying to setup new site

First off I am extremly new to IIS this is the first site and setup of a site for me.

I have one site that is running already we will say it is

http://www.temp.com

I would like to either setup a new site being able to use the same ip address though either using

https://www.temp.com

or

http://www.comp.temp.com

if this is possible

I would definitly like to know how to do both. So any information would be helpful.

Yes.

You will need to create a domain under your current dns domain

ie: in DNS you currently have something like:

Forward Lookup Zone
\-temp.com

inside temp.com you prolly have all your cool little www, ftp, ns, dns, etc...

You can very easily make

http://comp.temp.com

you just create a new DNS Alias (or host) that points to wherever you want it to point. Then in IIS you specify the host header as

http://comp.temp.com

If you want

http://www.comp.temp.com

you need to create a new domain UNDERNEATH temp.com therefore your forwad lookupzone will look something to

FLZ:
\--temp.com
\---comp

and then under comp you can have all your cool www, ftp, etc... at which point you can follow the rational above and specify the host header as

http://www.comp.temp.com

this was helpful

i setup the dns and the domain and the alias done as above
when i go to an outside system and try it still does not allow access. but i found out we are going through an outside DNS at the IP provider Is this were it should be done or can i do it inside on the webserver so when it sees a request coming in on that ip it checks to see which site to send it to.
