One of our incoming trunk lines seems to be having an odd difficulty. If you disconnect the trunk from the system, it rings a test set and answers fine. Connected to the system, when you dial, it clicks like it answers, but you never get the greeting and menu system. Also, when connected to a test set, you never get a dialtone. Incoming line is ground start. Pasted below is the trunk's TN

Could this be some equipment failure at the CO even though I can answer a call using the test set?

Thanks

hen you use the test, did you put a grd on the TIP or RING to see if you get dialtone then?

I tried grounding both tip and ring - neither generated a dialtone. Haven't tried reversing yet, but I'm not convinced that's the problem since grounding each one didn't yield a dialtone.

a slight ground on the ring side causes this problem.. if your not getting dialtone on the open pair, report the trouble.. BUT, if i read that right, remove the pbx and you can take an inbound call on that trunk with a butt set. if that is the case, it's either reversed or the card it also bad... lighting, will burn the carbon protection and might damage that card at the same time...

your trouble shooting seems to prove that both the trunk and the trunk card are bad

Well we called it into the Telco yesterday. They came out and had a bit of trouble isolating the problem, but it turned out the problem was an amplifier card at the CO. They wired around the card for the day since they didn't have a replacement and all was well. Today they replaced the card (although the on-site tech didn't think it was really needed) and we're back in business. Thanks for the replies - was just a weird situation, but now that I know what the problem was it makes sense. The tech said he could hear a very faint dialtone on the line.
