Hi all,

My network is as follows, Exchange 2k, Server2k, Windows XP, Office 2003, we have an external email host, that we use GFI Mail Essentials to pull POP3 emails to our exchange server.

Now for the problem.....

I have been having problems with my exchange server. The other day it was reported that people were not receiving emails. I checked out the host, and all was clear. I checked out the GFI monitor and it showed that emails were being pulled down from the external host, then I checked in the exchange system manager, and tried tracking messages sent to a user that is 'not' getting emails... and the track showed all emails that should have reached the user.

I went through a serious of things, fully updated windows update and outlook. It turns out that the only way that I could fix it was by either restarting all exchange services, or by rebooting the exchange server. This was worrying on its own.

But what is more worrying is that the same thing happened yesterday with just one user... I restarted the exchange services, then I rebooted the server, and she is still not receiving emails.

What is causing this, and more importantly, how do I fix this?

thanks in advance,

Mswilson

I am having a similar problem. Posted in two other threads, so if I get any ideas from those, will post them here too. I haven't tried restarting the exchange service. I might give that a go.

Do you have logging enabled? It might help show you what's happening.

Figured it out... outlook has a Cache Mode... Apparently, sometimes when the exchange server is not available it will switch to this mode and not switch back...

You need to go into tools, email accounts, find your exchange account, click change, and then un-click the cache mode, close outlook, and then reopen... all your email should be there.

This worked for me, hope it does the trick for you

Are you refering to 'Enable offline use' option for Outlook 2k?

I went through and enable and disable these setting in the client, but no new email.

No this is using Outlook 2003, but I believe that Outlook2k has this same feature.

I am not sure where to find it in Outlook2k, but in Outlook 2003 you go to the path in my last post, and then there is a tick box for, Use Cached Exchange Mode

hope that helps

Thanks, but I found out my the emails got delivered to another mailbox. So it's a different problem blarg.
