TOTAL WEIRDNESS

Hi,
All of my icons are the same. (well sortov) 1st off. all start menu icons are the same. even if the program has its own icon. the quicklaunch bar has all the icons, but they are all white. not the colors. then some icons don't show up on the desktop. i just don't know what to do. i thought it was a theme. its not. i have played around with the display settings and don't know what to do. i would apprecieate the help.

Try installing tweakui and using its repair icons feature -

In addition, I have seen this happen (usually a few at a time) with some virus infections--good idea to run AV on it just in case....

Three things to do to fix your icons:

1. Go to your Windows directory and find the file shelliconcache. Delete it and reboot - the file will be recreated once Windows loads back up.

2. Go to your display properties and find the tab which has the option to use large icons (can't remember what its called now). Select Use Large Icons, apply it, unselect it and then apply again.

3. Do what wolluf has suggested and use TweakUI's repair icon feature.

Perhaps you or someone has been playing around in display properties. Here is what to try. - right click on empty space on desk top. Left click properties. left click on appearence then take it from there. you will need to change startup and desktop to the scheme that suits you.
