Tool for converting TTF to PCL ?

Hi everyone

Is there a tool that converts a .TTF file to a .PCL font that can be downloaded to the printer ?

Yes.
fconv is a dos program that converts TTF's to scalable pcl fonts.
It's provided with a new LexMark printer in the cd with all it's help. I'm sure it can be found on the web, but I don't know where.
you can usually use the printer driver to perform the download OR:
If you need a soft font then you will need to modify the .sft file created (ID command at the beginning and 'make permanent' at the end) or use PJL to download to printer memory.

LexMark and Brother are very user friendly when it comes to downloading fonts and macros
HP seems to wona make life harder

If you want a bitmap font there are several convertion tools like: FONmaker from

but I dont know of any freeware

The FCONV.exe from Agfa (1994) is not very useful. There are not many TrueType fonts that it can convert (it can't even convert the BASE 14 fonts that come with Windows).

We have in-house programs that can convert TrueType fonts into PCLETTO (.SFT) or PCLEO (.SFS) scalable formats. However, we do so only as a service for font or logo authors.

We withdrew our AllType, Universal Typeface Converter from the market because most interested parties were just interested in bootlegging fonts from third party authors.

Contact me only if you have a serious, commercial need to legally convert body text, logo, signature or other fonts.
