We are running CM 2.1.1 with S8700 servers on a client’s site. There are complaints that the DCP phones, especially Call Masters, lose and gain time. That means that the phone clock is not accurate enough for the agents to keep time of their schedules. Does anyone know what the update rate of the time display on the phones are, and if there is anything that can be done to get the clocks more accurate?

I thought there was a entry under 'change system features' that has option to update the time on display phones. I thing that it has even been mentioned in this forum.

P.S. A message to all,if you want to get the best response to a question, please read FAQ222-2244 first. Also give the type & version of your voice mail & pbx system & preview your post to make sure it is complete & understandable. The time update feature only updates the clocks on certain phone sets, and I believe that it happens only once every 24 hours. If you need to have the phone updated more frequently, a date-time button on the phone will reset the local phone clock to the PBX clock, but the accuracy will be only to within 1 minute.

In some older systems that's not a much of a benefit, My experience has been that the system clock can stray quite a bit over the course of a year anyway.

I tell people that it's a telephone. Not a clock. Don't expect it to be truly accurate, and "correcting" the PBX time frequently can mess with CDR's and CMS systems.

I once had two obsessive compulsive executive types who were convinced that their wrist watches had the "correct" time and they insisted that I change the PBX to match their watches. Of course both had different times, so one of them was going to be unhappy. Even if I did, the time on their set could be off as much as two minutes inside of a month, so why bother?

In your case, it sounds like someone is trying to use the PBX for a time clock. If this is an agent compensation issue, get out of that argument right now, and suggest that it would be a mistake to use phone clocks. The PBX clock is just not accurate enough to use as a time clock.

I certainly wouldn't want my pay determined by what the clock on my phone said the time was. There are certainly better systems for that.

Overall, I agree with dufus2506's statements. However, there are some things to check.

1. Does the S8700 server itself have the correct time? For continual accuracy, I would configure a network time server.

2. Check sys fea on page 9 - "System Updates Time On Station Displays" should be set to Y.
