I thought I saw this at a customers site when I was Partner tech doing some wiring. The receptionist had sent a text to a user's phone saying something like "call recept when free". I saw that on the user's phone. Is this possible and how?
We recently went from a Definity Pro-logix to an IPO R.5
I'm a Partner tech learning IPO and am just playing around with our system getting to know it. Thought about that feature and trying to look for it, not seeing it anywhere.
Any ideas, or am I full of it?

Where do you download softconsole? Support.Avaya has it as a search option, but when you click on it it says, "no downloads for current product".
Theres no way just from the phone? Is there a certain version of softconsole (license) or comes with basic package?

In answer to your questions see below:

Where do you download softconsole? Support.Avaya has it as a search option, but when you click on it it says, "no downloads for current product".

You go to support.avaya.com then downloads but look for IP Office and then the IP Office 4.2.31 Q1 2010 User CD Maintenance Release which will give you softconsole

Theres no way just from the phone?

Nope!

Is there a certain version of softconsole (license) or comes with basic package?

You need to purchase the receptionist license which gives you the softconsole functionality.

Regards

Bob

Indeed you need a license for softconsole.

But you can use shortcodes too.
But for every text message, which can be max 16 characters, you need a shortcode because you can not change the text.

Example

*73*N#
Displ Msg
N"; Test"
0

When you dial
*73*201#

Then extension 201 will show "Test" in the screen.

Like i said, for every text message you need to build a shortcocde.

ACS IP Office or is it ACSS :)
ACA - Implement IP Telephony -- ACA - Design IP Telephony
ACA - Voice Services Management

Women and cats can do as they please and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea!

tlpeters solution is good, you could also programme a button called "Send Messege" or similiar to dial the *73* part (or the initial part of your custom one) for you then you just need to enter the extension and # :)

VMPro can also do this.

Create a SC point it to a module in VMPro.

In VMPro;
To turn the message ON

Menu (add a $) > then you need 3 generics > select "free format" and paste the ones below.

1 generic > CFG:SET "$KEY" absent_set 1
2 generic > CFG:SET "$KEY" absent_msg 11
3 generic > CFG:SET "$KEY" absent_text YourTextHere

To turn the message OFF

Menu (add a $) > then you need 3 generics > select "free format" and paste the ones below.

1 generic > CFG:SET "$KEY" absent_set 0
2 generic > CFG:SET "$KEY" absent_msg 0
3 generic > CFG:SET "$KEY" absent_text

For turning it OFF generic 2 and 3 are not needed, but adding them also will clear the message like default.

Now when you dial the SC you nee to enter the "extension number" + # to sent that message, putting another menu after the $ you can add as many text messages as you like.

That's not sending that extension a text though Bas, that sets the extension you enters Absent text e.g what displays if you ring them.....at least that what it appears to do :)

This s indeed the absent message, but like sending a normal message this work better because sending it the other way it will be removed after lifting the handset.
