We have an IP Office R2.1 with all analogue extensions which we use in a call centre environment.
We use a bespoke .NET application for outbound calls. Currently the users are having to manually dial each number (either using the phone or using PM).
I would like to build in dialling functionality in to our application.
We have come across a problem though, in that the extension setting on the TAPI driver is a per-machine setting and only administrators can change it. Does anyone know of any way to programmatically change this setting? Is there a decent TAPI driver for this system on XP?

You need the CTI pro lisence in order to change from single user to 3rd party Tapi.

You certainly don't need 3rd party TAPI. You can use a login script to change the registry entry that determines the TAPI extn. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AVAYA\IP400\TSPI\Options - set to extn no.

I did try this but it seemed that the driver only accepts changes when the machine starts. Is there some other way of restarting the TAPI driver?

You'll need to restart the Telephony service (something which is a bit hit and miss on XP) - the best method is to restart the PC.

This is my issue, the people in our call centre have practically no permissions on the machine, rebooting is a bit nasty.

I'm pretty disappointed that such basic CTI isn't possible for a call centre environment. We specifically bought the system for the CTI.

Does CTI Pro really improve things in this regard? I thought CTI Pro just gave info on hunt groups and allowed monitoring of lots of extensions.

Has anyone any experience in using this before I buy it?

The CTI Pro license will work, but will require modification to your application. You will have to have a single TAPI server running third party TAPI, and your application will need to communicate with this server to initiate calls, hang up etc. I have experience installing and maintaining a system that worked in this fashion, but I'm afraid I can't help on the programming side.
