Hi. I recently changed my swap file from my c: drive to drive f: because c: was running out of space. My machine has 256megs RAM. Now when I boot I get a "no swap-too small swap etc etc message. Have allocated 400 megs as the minimum and 2000 as max. I checked my registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINR\System|CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager
\MemoryManager to see if the Set worked. Here's what I have in the registry.
F:\pagefile1.sys 400 2000

Eveything looks copacetic but my machine keeps crashing.

Anyone know what is wrong and how to fix it? I suppose I could just reinstall but that would simply reset the swap to c: and that seems stupid as I only have 266 megs free on c:.

I will add the you should disable completely any antivirus program prior to resetting your virtual memory. Often the AV program will interefer with what you intend to apply.

Finally, you cannot remove completely a pagefile stub from your SYSTEM volume, albeit you can make it small.

Wow, what a lesson. First I found MS actually admitting they actually have a problem. Let me relate what happened in that two tries were necessary before it worked. First I found that there were two swap files on my swap drive. I read the link and followed their directions. On checking permissions I found that the SECOND, or the one stated in my registry had permission for everybody. I changed them on both swap files followed MS's directions and of course they didn't work. Got the same message on reboot. Then I remembered your addedum about the stub SYSTEM swap file. Went back in and created one. Worked great. No more message. Where did you ever come across that little fact? It's invaluable. I owe you a big one. I was about to entirely rebuild my hard drives. Many, many thanks.
