Strange problem with ePO 3.5 1

Hi all!

Lately I've been experiencing problems with our ePO 3.5 installation. Policy settings are being ignored by clients and servers running VSE 8.0i i.e. when applying certain policy settings to VSE 8.0i via ePO 3.5 they are being ignored.
I've also noted that when trying to run a deployment task which has been set to uninstall VSE 8.0i it is also ignored. However DAT deployments via ePO 3.5 are being deployed successfully.
I've installed the latest patch for ePO 3.5 i.e patch 5 and so I cannot understand why this is happening. Has anyone encountered this strange behaviour before?

Thanks!

We had the same issue here, you may have patch 11 installed but it wasn't installed correctly.

Within your ePO console, check the properties of the system you mean and you will see that ePO doesn't discover that it has VSE 8.0i installed.

McAfee has instructed us to change the Plugin Flag DWORD from 8 to 0 in the registry (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\VIRUSSCAN8000)

This doesn't always help though with me. we have reinstalled the virusscanner on these machines so patch 11 could be correctly installed.

Thanks for posting. I do not have Patch 11 installed on our workstations and servers. Read too many problems about it. I have patch 10 installed.

Thanks
Pierre

I've done the workaround with the registry key on one of our servers, now ePO does see that it has VSE 8.0i installed but doesn't show the patch (because VSE 8.0i doesnt show it in the about screen either(missing a reg key))
It is working OK though and applying all policies.

try pushing out a new agent installation. this solves a lot of problems with communication between server and client

I did a fresh agent re-install via ePO. The icon which used to appear at the bottom of the task bar disappeared and even though it is set to be shown via the Policy is not showing no matter how many times I send an Agent Wakeup Call!

what happens if you type in
"c:\program files\network associates\common framework\cmdagent.exe" /S

does the agent display?

hmmm.
ok try "c:\program files\network associates\common framework\cmdagent.exe" /c /e

this should check for and enforce the policies.

after that, have you tried removing and reinstalling virus scan?

I've tried uninstalling VSE 8.0i via ePO 3.5 and it wouldn't uninstall. My deployment tasks are also not working it seems :-(

sorry only just noticed that this is a problem with mutliple clients.
Have you got grant number?
If so give mcafee a shout, they'll get you to run the MERTool and you can send them the results, they'll then analyze them and tell you what's wrong.

Failing that, have you tried putting a nice new cleanbuild pc on the network and try installing vse and epo agent on it?

Am currently waiting in the queue in order to chat with one of the Mcafee guys. Thanks for your help!

I'm using their Internet chat service and I am based on a tiny isle in the middle of the Mediterranean :)

hi

we had the same problem as yours

mcafee told us to upgrade our epo350 with the patch #5

we upgrade to epo 360 and the problem is gone with the wind

sguay

Patch 5 did not solve our problem. The way I solved it was by creating a new site and migrating all our servers and workstations from the old site to it. Problem solved.
No thanks to Mcafee support of course!

Pierre

Tigerdivision thanks!
I had developed the same problem over the weekend with one of our customers and just fixed it using this fix. worked a treat.
Cheers for posting the fix
