Hi everyone

I have XP Pro SP2 and have a single laptop behind a router attached to ADSL. I just checked ipconfig /all and I was surprised by some of the entries and the format. Immediately prior to this, I had typed arp -a. I don't know if this is relevant.

The physical addresses are as expected (such as 14-0C-18-DD-74-81) but the IP addresses are given in this format:

fa84::32b:22da:ba0c:d4a0%4

and the DNS servers in this format:

192.168.0.1
fbb0:0:0:ffff::1%1
fbb0:0:0:ffff::2%1
fbb0:0:0:ffff::3%1

In addition, I found:

Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface:

and

Tunnel adapter Automatic Tunneling Pseudo-Interface:

I have several questions:

1. Why are the IP addresses in this format rather than the familar aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd? How can I change the format back?

2. Similarly, why the odd format for the DNS servers?

3. What are the Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface and Tunnel adapter Automatic Tunneling Pseudo-Interface? I haven't installed these! I have both Wireless Network and Ethernet connections so I appreciate their display with ipconfig /all.

Finally, I've changed the actual IP addresses and physical addresses that I've listed in this posting to protect my privacy. The format that I've given is as shown to me by ipconfig /all.

I'm confused!

Thanks for your time (and patience).

Your ISP uses IPv6 apparently. You're seeing the IPv6 addresses. That's what the Teredo Tunneling is for. It's connecting your v6 setup to the v4 internet.

Thanks for the rapid responses.

Any idea why they've suddenly apppeared? So far as I recall, I looked at ipconfig /all about a month ago and everything was "familiar". Is it something that I've done, is it due to a Windows Update or is it something that my ISP has done? If it's the latter, I haven't had any sort of notification from them (Demon).
