Gone for the holidays and returned to find my CRON scripts that FTPs antivirus definition updates have failed. Looking through the logs shows that it failed when some idiot downed the server. And now, after bringing the server back up, pinging some public IP (like my ISP's nameserver) fails. Pinging the public router on the internal net works fine, but getting to the other side fails. Nothing is wrong with the router, other stations access internet fine. Checking TCPCON I find that there is only a single entry in the routing table, no default gateway entry. Trying to add the default entry - I get an error "Object Not Found". eh? Why can't I add the default? I try to add a route to loopback - "object not found". hmmm.... This has never happened to me before. I check INETCFG and all seems as I have written in my setup notes, I can't seem to find the culprit - what has changed? Any insight from anyone? Has something NDS-wise gone awry? Is there some sort of corruption?

Resolved! Seems something got weirded out. I found a REALLY OLD TID 2919265 - that discussed this "Object Not Found" error as a property of a read/write issue of the TCP MIB. After reviewing all the settings in TCPCON and looking at various setting within INETCFG, I simply selected 'reinitialize' from within INETCFG and magically - the ongoing ping suddenly started working. Don't know what got weirded out, but simply reinitializing the server's idea of its own network seems to have resolved whatever confusion it had with itself. I don't care for this type of fix - it bothers me when something broke magically fixes.
