Hi

I am very new to phone systems, and would like a bit of help if at all possible.

We have a Nortel Networks phone system, and the main unit is a bcm50a (hope that helps)

What is annoying everyone here is that when you are on a call, someone intenally can ring your line, and your phone rings, its most distracting and annoying when you are talking to someone. What we want is for the phone not to ring and the internal call dialer hears a enagged / busy tone.

Does anyone know what I have to do to get this.

If you could answer with very simple instructions I would appreacite that all the more.

Thanks fot any help in advance.

Dan

Hi

Thx for the reply. We dont have mailboxes here.

Can I still enable fwd busy and how do I go about doing that ?

I said I was a noob :)

Thx

Under the set capabilities check the box next to (Do Not Disturb on Busy) This will stop the seccond call from ringing it will only flash. If there is no voicemail (which comes built in on the BCM's) then the seccond caller will keep getting rings untill the user finishes the call, hangs up, and answers the seccond call (which will now ring on the set).

Hope that helps,

Eric

Ah ha

I see what the problem is here. I do not have access to a computer based control panel.

Everything I do has to be done through the phone itself. I was hoping to get a code / so way of manually adjusting each phone.

Anyone know how to do that ?

Dan

You'll need to get into Installer programming. Feature **266344, pswd, Show on Terminals & Sets, Next to Capabilities, Show, then Next to DND on Busy.

under feat ** 266344 >> terminals and sets >> capabilities >> forward on buey >> forward to: (set to your voicemail's DN number)

alternatevily you can let the call continue to be presented to the phone but just not ring by setting terminals and sets >> capabilities >> DND on busy to Yes this lets the call be presented to the phone. If your phone has line appearances and rings on it for the outside lines, the phone will not forward those calls to the stations VM.

not only that I am not sure you can use feat **266344. sorry I thought it was a norstar question not BCM.

Also, if you follow RikRodgers' advice set DND on Busy and do not configure Forward on Busy, the caller will receive a busy tone if the phone is in use (which is what you wanted).

I did it :)

Hooray. Thx for the help, it was not as hard as I thought it might be.

Can anyone point me to a manual that gives me a explanation of all the different options I can set.

Cheers

Dan

Thanks thats great.

I have one last question.

Now I have all my passwords, where I can download the installer programming application RikRogers mentioned ?

I would imagine it is alot easier to do from an applcation that through the phone.

If your BCM is on the network then type in the IP of the BCM into your web browser, you will get some error saying not certified...just click the link int the middle to continue. Download Element Manager.

If it is not on the network then hookup a laptop to the BCM's OEM port.
Change the laptop IP to 10.10.11.2, connect patch cord to OEM port.
Type in your browser 10.10.11.1
