Hi Guys,

I am new to the forum here and would like to thank you all in advance for the help.

I have currently installed an Avaya IP Office system with a customized config to suit the business.

1 requirement was to have 2 3rd party sip licences to run soft-phone on 2 smartphones. At the moment the phones are iphone 5.

The phones are currently registering to the sip system and I am able to make calls, receive calls and call/receives extensions and transfers.

The problem lies in the fact that after 10-15 minutes (i haven't actually tried to time it exactly) the phone displays a message that it has lost registration. Currently Bria is being used, but I have configured 3cx also but it has issues also.

I am assuming (with confidence) that the ip settings, port forwarding and licencing settings are correct as i can use the system.

Is it Bria that is causing the registration issues Message is 'Error:Request Timeout 408'. Then the phone randomly recovers. Through this period any calls made hit the other end but silence for both parties. The app must be shut down and re-opened and the call re-made.

Any advice would be awesome guys. I am willing to try almost anything(with in reason).

Regards Trenna!

I have a customer that uses Bria and they had to turn the iphone to airplane mode and then enable wireless to keep it from falling asleep. They do not use any cell service for them and just use them internally though.

Indeed, this is an issue with Apple forcing apps to close after a period of time, only they can change it :)

"No problem monkey socks

thanks westie, I actually need the app to function seamlessly between our coal WiFi and 3/4g. I wish it was that simple for us.

amriddle1 if this is the case that makes this kind of app useless on the iPhones can't believe there isnt a bypass option for it. Obviously app makers wont anounce this before purchase.

how do I make the iphone stay awake, obviously the battery will suffer. I need it to stay in contact with te ipoffice to allow it to remain an active extension, both in house and when on the road.

will Turning sleep mode off stop this?

if this is a issue with this being shut by the iphone is does the same thing happen to abyss one x app also.

does android have the same shortcomings?

grant
is for the feedback guys, I know have something to think about.

you could always try and contact the makers of Bria and see if they have the settings to circumvent the iphone shortcomings.

I use Bria on my iPhone 4 with a Fortivoice system and it stays connected throughout the day (and runs my battery down to 5% by the end of a busy day). I use it with Wifi only. If it sleeps the wifi I've never noticed. Check for any timeouts on your router.

Also, release 9 is supposed to support SIP through the One-X Mobile app available for iPhone and some Android phones. It should be available to upgrade by the end of the month.

Thanks Texas, Even when i use it on wifi it will lose or drop its registration.

I will look into the One-x app but does it require a One-x Portal with the IP Office system? With 2 phones its not worth the server cost.

Have to wait and see then.

Yes you do need One-x Portal and a power user license.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

No need for a Windows server and selling your house over it. Buy a used PC and install Application server which is installing Linux OS and one-x portal and if you like also vm pro
I bought a PC for $ 250 and spend another $ d0 for a new HDD and it runs and works without any problems.

Thats definately a great idea westi!

Any idea what the One-X portal liscencing is worth in Australian Dollars lol?

I have a PC siting on the machine to manage the call reports using Call Collector software. I may be able to utilise that but i read somewhere requirements were a Dual Xeon system.

One-X Portal requires Preferred Edition, which is pretty hefty ($2,000+). If you already have Preferred (VM Pro, etc) you can do what Westi suggests and just be out the cost of the PC. You would also need user profile licensing, which would not be much for two users.

Bria is not a perfect solution. It is very flexible, but I do experience glitches, including Bria not ringing on incoming calls (it will vibrate only) and clipping in the audio stream. This setup requires exacting configuration and perfectly ideal conditions to work with any sense of consistency.

TexasBear is right you would have to have preferred, if you want it cheap look for a license key on ebay for about $400 (US which is about $10 000 Australian I think :p) and get the license transferred.
you can bid on this one as it is on $27 at the moment
Parallel Dongle

As for the PC requirements, mine is an Intel dual core processor on an HP desktop PC about 4-5 years old that I bought at a local computer store as off lease PC.
The Apps server is using minimal resources and especially if you don't run 40 vm ports and 100 users on one-x portal

Thanks again Texas and Westi.

If i understand correctly, then this dongle is purely to connect a computer and liscence a PC to the server.

Then i require a pc running an server os? Obtain liscences per user and then configure it all together.

Before this i need to have Preferred edition (is this a version of IP Office?)

All this sounds simple enough until the config part lol!

I will email bria and ask if there is a feature i missed to stop it dropping registration. Your options look good and seem to be a better solution than a complete supplied one-x package.

Again great to hear from you all!

With release 9.0 the (Linux) apps server requires a 64 machine.
So any 32 but machine does not work anymore.

great, that means that you have to spend now real money on an apps server that worked well before on a cheap machine.
Thanks Avaya, one more reason to become a butcher or baker as not much has changed there in a thousand years.

Westi, most systems are 64bit stop that should both be a problem.

guys sorry to rehash all of this.

I have discovered that IOS 6 sleeps the wifi when the phone is in sleep mode to save battery. 3g is still active tho, obviously.

Does anyone know how to configure bria to seamlessly switch from wifi to 3g on its own?

I have it working on wifi but have to manually change account profiles when i go off the lan.

any ideas?

i just updated to ios 7 to see if it is any different!

fingers crossed.
