hi
the speaker icon is not displayed in the system tray and i need to turn down the volume level is there another way of doing this also how do i get the icon back into the tray
thanks

On 2k machine currently - where its the sounds and multimedia icon in Control Panel (check box to display on task bar) - something similar in XP, but can't remember exactly where.

It is the same in XP, you enable the display through Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices. Put it will disappear on you. You can right-click a blank area of the task bar, Properties, and un-tick to hide inactive icons. This can help. You might want to first tick-Hide inactive icons, Customize, and then set the Speaker Volume icon to "Always Display", apply, then un-tick Hide inactive Icons.

But it may disappear again. This and the ICS/uPnP Gateway icon are both problematic. If you have the Internet Connection Gatway icon on your task bar, you might want to hide it. This sometimes helps. I expect the notification icon issue to see some patches in Service Pack 2.

great stuff guys
right-clicked a blank area of the task bar, Properties, and un-tick to hide inactive icons
