We are using Cisco AS5300 RAS with two four E1 ports(120 terminal lines). Users connect to the Internet by dialing into E1 number(provided by telecommunication company).
The detail of RAS is:

IOS Version 12.0(4)XJ4
Flash Image file: c5300-i-mz.120-4.XJ4

There are two problems that we have with this setup.
1) Some users are not able to connect to RAS. When they dial into E1 number, they get dialup error 678 with a message that "The number is not answering". But if the same user dial to another ISP who is using Patton RAS, he is able to connect without any problem.

2) Second problem is that when user dials the E1 number, the RAS picks up the call and then it takes very long to display the prompt for username/pasword. But after specifying the username/password it connects immediately.
This second problem is for all the users. And with another ISP in the city who is using Patton RAS, it does not have any of these two problems.

Please help us as we are losing customers due to these problems.

Thanks in advance

Your IOS image has long since been deferred. On top of that, it's very old as well.

Just ran it through Cisco's bug toolkit and it reports 2500 known bugs of which there are 312 known serious (sev 1) bugs.

I'd recommend an upgrade. Hopefully you'll find this issue will disappear.

Thanks,

I'll upgrade the image and post the result.

Can u help me in suggesting the appropriate image? The output of show version command is pasted below:

Hi

You're using a really basic (IP or IP Base) feature pack from Cisco.

Anything.. literally anything.. you get should support what you're currently supporting (and more).

However to be on the safe side, you can access the Cisco website and use an utility called Software Advisor. Software Advisor is useful in that you can tell it what features interest you and it will suggest the best image or you can tell it what hardware you have/wnat to have and again it will suggest what image you need.

You can access Software Advisor here:

However you will need a Cisco CCO login.

But, as I say, you're running a very basic and old IOS image from 12.0.

If you can acquire anything from say 12.2 upwards, it will support a lot more features and hardware than your current IOS does.

Hope this helps

Is there any other way i can get new image. I do not have Cisco CCO login.

The standard way to obtain IOS releases is to obtain a Smartnet agreement with Cisco. With this you can update your IOS anytime directly from the Cisco website.

You can also contact a Cisco partner and buy the software from them. However you still don't get access to Cisco later on if you need to perform an upgrade at some later point in time. The partner locater is below:

Hi,

I have got following image file:

c5300-i-mz.122-2.XA5.bin

Is this image is okay or it also have some bugs? Can you please check it.

Thanks

That image has 2300 bugs with 1000 of those being serious (sev 1) bugs. It looks like this release is also deferred.

To help you, the following is a list of images that Cisco have NOT deferred for the AS5300

12.3.16a (LD)
12.3.16 (LD)

What about follwoing two IOS images

c5300-is-mz.122-11.T8.bin
and
c5300-is-mz.122-17a.bin

thnx

12.2(17a) has 1900 bugs of which 580 are serious (sev 1) bugs. This image is now deferred and no longer available on Cisco.com

12.2(11)T8 has 2100 bugs of which 400 are serious (sev 1) bugs. This image is also deferred and no longer available.

In my opinion, I'd either:

a) Try and obtain one of the images I listed 2 posts above.
b) Upgrade to the 12.2(11)T8 image as it seems to have fewer serious bugs and see if this rectifies your original issue. If it doesn't, you've still got a) as an option.

Just use the latest GD (general deployment) these are supposed to be more stable that LD or ED deployments .
