Hi
I'm having a problem and am not sure if it's an smtp problem, a DNS problem or a Notes/Domino configuration problem.
I work in a small office [30 users] and our network is a subnet off the largest tenant in the building - they run the router, internet access etc. Their domain name is Nche.edu
Our subnet is [A.B.143.*] and our domain name is aacn.nche.edu
We have 1 Notes 4.6 server running on NT 4.0 Sp6
server name: aacn.nche.edu/nche
domain name: nche.edu
this server has been up & running for almost 4 years now.
We have now purchased a domain name Nursingcolleges.org and need to use this on another subnet [A.B.142.*] in the building. The network administrator at Nche.edu said he'd make the necessary DNS entries for nursingcolleges.org.
Both [A.B.143.*] and [A.B.142.*] use the same switch to connect to the buildings fiber-optic backbone.
I'm having problems with Nursingcolleges.org
There is 1 Domino R5.0.6a server running on W2K Sp2
machine name: Nurse2
server name: nursingcolleges.org/nurse2
Fully qualified Internet host name: nursingcolleges.org/nurse2
I'm able to:
send e-mail from AACN to Nursingcolleges
send e-mail from Nursingcolleges to AACN
send e-mail from my personal e-mail accounts at ATT & Netscape to Nursingcolleges
I am NOT able to send e-mail from Nursingcolleges to anyone outside of the buildings network [i.e. to ATT or Netscape etc]. The logs tell me that SMTP returned a permanent error [see error logs below]
One other thing, when I receive e-mail at AACN from Nursingcolleges.org the 'From' field shows the sender as '"Tony_Dempsey/Nurse2%org/nurse2%org/nurse2" and not tony dempsey@nursingcolleges.org
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?
Is it something to do with the server name, Internet host name or R5 configuration?
Is there a problem on the DNS servers of nche.edu
Is there a problem with the SMTP configuration?
any help is greatly appreciated
