I installed 2 different versions Siemens 3000 Manager E on a new IBM Thinkpad with Windows 7. At first it worked fine, but noticed I couldn't browse to the KDS folder, seemed like it was hidden. I fooled with some folder settings with no luck, de-installed Manager E, did a system restore to the day before, re-installed and changed save options to a new folder. Originally I got "Error writing Kds", now after downloading 100% I just get the spinning cursor, the only option is to close the program. Maintenance works ok, it seems like it just can't create and save the kds file.

Uninstall it, and remove all the files or make a backup from

C:\Program Files\Siemens\HiPath 3000 Manager E\

Then reinstall it.

Tried that with system restores in between several times. If it didn't work on the first 2 systems I accessed I'd say it's just not compatible with Windows 7.

Have you tried setting it to run in Campatibility mode with XP? If you have 64-bit Windows 7 that could be a source of the problem. Not all 32-bit software will run on the 64-bit versions of windows.

Uninstall it, then right click on the setup and select
"Run as Administrator" seen some strange things even if you are an Administrator.

Also turning off UAC in Windows7 helps a lot.

The trouble was the laptop - I rebuilt it on our company's network and it's fine now. The laptop was having other strange issues as well accessing certain links on web sites. I found in Windows 7 by default hidden folders are not shown in folders, so the KDS folder was hidden. This version of Manager E is about 5 years back and it works fine with Windows 7.
