I have Solaris 7 and want to load perl. I dont have an internet connection. What are the steps I need to get perl and what settings do I need to change.
The 'how to get it part' is easy.... download it onto some machine somewhere and burn it to a CD or tape. Or, buy a book with the CD in the back. Or, go online and find someone who sells Perl on a CD. I glanced and did not see any immediately. There may be lots.... 'don't know. Binary ports for Solaris are very common, so you should not have trouble finding it, whatever mechanism you use to get it on your box.
The 'how to install it' is philosophically easy..... read the README and follow the directions. A plain vanilla install is pretty painless. However, there are many variations on the theme. It can be as complicated or as difficult as you want to make it. 'Make' it. <yuk yuk> get it? 'make' it?<chuckle - I'm to easily amused>LOL...
Anyway, read the README.
I'm not trying to be insulting, but, judging from the content of the question, buying a book with a CD in the back may be a very good idea. I think the book would be valuable. There are a number of threads about what books people like. You might also take a look at
