I think you cannot create a new db in a remote storgae in SQL Server or any db's. Mapping a network drive wont work. Enterprise Manager only sees your local drives. If your drive is part of SAN then add that to your server and you should be able to create db's. If anyone have any alternate suggestions please correct me.
That's different. You can do a front end on one system and the back end on another. You CANNOT have the backend on two systems (SQL Server on one system and the user databases on another system).
So, it depends on what you really meant....they answered the question that you asked.
While that will allow you to put the database on a UNC share it will make the server unsupported. If your network has even the smallest hickup (switch reboots, nic cable gets unplugged, etc) your entire database can become corrupt.
