This isn't a necessity - just a preference, but does anyone know a way to add sub-folders to the SendTo menu in Windows Vista?

I just assumed it was the same as in XP, but apparently not. In XP, if you add a folder under the "SendTo" folder, and put shortcuts in that folder, you've automatically created a subfolder for the SendTo menu. That worked great for me in the past when I took the time to do it.

Now, however, in Vista, if you put a folder under the "SendTo" folder, you'll end up just sending whatever to that folder, and that is NOT what most any person would want to do. Sure, there may be one out there, but in general, I would think that's not the case.

Any thoughts on how to do this - even if it requires a 3rd party program?

BTW, here is one article written up no how to access the "SendTo" folder:

I can't seem to find any info about how to use subfolders. It may just flat out not be possible with Vista, but I hope that's not the case.

Not sure whether you can do this in Vista, I did see this program but again I'm not sure it will work as you want.

"- Send To "Folder..." sends a file or files to another folder, you will be shown a dialog box that lets you choose where the files should be copied, moved, or have a shortcut created. To move the files press and hold down the SHIFT key. To create a shortcut hold down the SHIFT and CTRL keys."

Tried to reply while still at work. I'm going to try to download this app real quick, and try it out possibly this evening. Thanks for the link, linney: it looks like it will be perfect!

As to the shortcuts, <Alt> while dragging will also create a shortcut.

I was unaware, or just forgot, that <Shift> will specifically "move" a file. How does that work between partitions? Does it still copy, as in default drag, or are you saying is specifically will basically "cut" and "paste" the file - a true "move"?

Thanks again for the info, and I'll post back with my experience with the app. I'll try it on Vista and XP to see.

Actually I'm not saying anything the information was a quote from the programmer who wrote the article on the web page I linked to. That is why I enclosed it all in "", nothing I say myself is worth enclosing in quotes.

Hmm, duly noted. [wink] I was kinda wondering. Well, either way, it looks like a good option, though I didn't get time to try it last night. I'll try to give it a look this late afternoon or evening if possible. Today I should have more time anyway.

Thanks again for that link.

So far, I've gotten it installed on an XP machine, though in haste, and haven't had a chance to really try it out. So far from what I can tell, though, I'm going to really like it!

Let's see if it works on Vista as that will be the acid test?

Oh I plan on it for sure! [wink]

I'm hoping to get a chance to try it out tonight or else tomorrow night at the latest.

Tried last night on Vista, and it worked perfectly! Thanks again for the link!

The only other customization I'd like to possibly do is remove some of the fixed drives from the list. That program doesn't have an option for that. I've read a couple of workarounds online, so if/when I get a chance, I might give one of those a try.

Oh yeah, didn't think about this part: I'm not sure if that program does subfolders. However, with all the features in that program, I know I'll be a happy camper, either way. If I think about it later on, I'll make sure to test it out on that point, and post back with my findings. But the way things are going, it may be a WHILE.
