I have a ScanJet 3300C. I also have 2 computers. Both computers would like their very own scanner (they like to scan a bunch of stuff).

One system has Windows 98 while the other has Windows 2000 Pro. The ScanJet driver, reputedly designed for the Win98 environment, only seems to want to work in the Win 2k Pro environment and not the Win98 environment.

I have sent a request to HP and am still waiting for a reply.

Thanks for any advice at all!

I just re-read my post, I forgot to tell you the symptoms.

On the Win 2000 computer, I simply attached the ScanJet to the system and it practically forced me to install the driver right then and there.

On the Win 98 computer, I used the driver software and went through the steps (or rather tried to go through the steps) like you are supposed to. There is a menu with 3 steps to complete. The first step installs the driver. This is where my failure occurs.

I click on the first step to install the driver and a blue screen with HP ScanJet LT logo pops up and then immediately disappears as if it has decided it was done without ever installing the driver. Nothing I do seems to make it want to work. I have tried different USB cables (ah yes, it is a USB device) with no luck. I can swap scanners and they both work with either cable on the Win2k computer, but not on the Win98 computer.

I am just an Unix/NT geek. This Win98 frightens and confuses me :cool:

And I just tried to install this scanner on another Win98 computer just now and I still have this problem. I must be doing something wrong.

Please help!

Thanks =)

what version of win98 you running . 2nd version needed for proper USB support. are the USB devices showing OK under device mangler ? tried the other USB port ( assuming you have 2) ? latest driver may be an idea.
