S8300 Connectivity Issues

Ran into a new and puzzling problem this weekend. We have a customer with an S8300 B(HW04 FW001) in location A and a matching system in location B.The customer as having coverage issues on site to site calls over IP Trunking caused by a version mismatch.Site A was a 3.1.4 and site B was a 3.1.2.We tried to talk the customer into upgrading site B to a 3.1.4 but he balked and this guy has been through a lot so we wanted to appease him.
Due to multiple issues we decided to re-load 3.1.2 from scratch and re-program from scratch as well. The system only has about 30 users.Evrything was going perfectly until we had to re-boot the server for something. Then we lost both media-gateways and the ability to ping the stack and mgp resources.
Basically the re-boot caused the IP "interface" of the S8300 to "lock up",for lack of a better term.We even tried to install the S8300 in the second gateway and the problem followed the S8300.Running a "configure server, individual services, set interfaces" cleared the problem, but we have a system that can not be re-booted right now.
For a nightcap we re-loaded the 3.1.4 to see if the problem could be a corruption in our 3.1.2 disc. The results were identical.
I was just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this and if there are any known issues/fixes for this type of issue.
Obviously we are planning to replace the S8300.We are just not positive that this is the issue right now-just an educated guess. We have known problems with the G700 that the S8300 resides in as well.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

On the "maint web page", click on "Firewall" and just change something (almost anything, like enabling NTP on outbound), and see if your problem goes away. sometime the fireall (IPTables) need to be updated. If that doesn't work, go into "Configure Server" and then under "Interfaces" just save them, as then are, which will reset the IP address's... see if that helps.

Thanks Mitch-I did the "Configure Server" reset interfaces and that did the trick.
I was wondering if there is any permanent solution or known fix/patch for this issue.
Right now we are looking at replacing the G700 and/or the S8300.We know we have issues with the G700 as certain transfers out of that gateway do not work.
I am worried now that if the system re-boots they will be locked again.
I was also wondering if anyone knew what could cause this.I have never seen this behavior before. The G700/S8300's have always been rock-solid for me.

You will probably be fine on a reboot, just sometimes the firewall and/or IP address's get messed ip on the S8300, this is a bug AVAYA has, and it doesn't happen all that often. It seems to happen more if the equipment is not shutdown properly (through the web interface), or you have a lot of power failures. I would not worry about it...

OK-this is really crazy. We had to replace something to rectify the problems we had this weekend-every time we re-booted the S8300 it would lose connectivity without fail.
We ordered another S8300 and a G700.I loaded 3.1.4 and all of the appropriate patches. So far so good. Then I did a sav trans, reset sys 4,go back in and disable password aging for my dadmin, sav trans again-all is good. Then I restore from an .xln file we FTP'd from this customer's machine, logged back in-reset sys 4,log back in-ch media-g 1-update the serial number-all good.Registered and all translations are correct.
Then I tried to reboot the Server-BAM!Same issue as this weekend.I can ping everything but the S8300 and the MG will not register.Clearly the problem resides in the translations,right.Maybe-the same thing happened when we loaded from scratch and programmed from scratch on Saturday.
A corrupt disc?I used this disc to upgrade an ESS with no issues?!?!?!?!
Has anyone ever seen this one before?

Oh yeah-from the CLI I receive the message-
"operation not permitted" when trying to execute a ping.

go to the "main web" page, and check the firewall and server access pages. If ping is enabled, then you have the same issue as before. go in, and reset the IP address, in "configure server", it will prbably be fixed for you. Once that is done, DO NOT change any firewall or server access settings, and you shoul dprobably be fine on a reboot...

OK-I think I figured this out.My partner is a b1g fan of the Installation Wizard. When he runs the Wizard he uses the option to "copy software to partition" or something along those lines.
Hence creating a second partition on the drive. My partner claims this is the way to install IA770 and since I didn't know any better I did it his way.He is the senior guy and my manager. As it turns out,I checked the boot partition page and the system was set to the correct partition. However, every time the system re-booted the S8300 IP connection would lock up-all other translations and functions were fine, although of course you lose your gateways.
I started thinking about this and I went back to the tried and true "Make Upgrade Permanent" option-Voila'-problem solved.I have re-booted 3 times and unplugged not so gracefully and the system comes back every time.
Thanks for all of your input Mitch-this one was a classic!
