Running multiple analog phones on one port?

I am interested in using an IP Office, specifically the SOE to run a simple SOHO network. The client uses mainly analog phones and doesn't want to upgrade to digital. Since the SOE only has 4POT connections, is it possible to run multiple phones off of one of those jacks? For instance, their are approx. 5 phones that all function as basically the same phone anyway. Would I mess anything up if I connected all 5 of these phones to one POT connection on the SOE?

I looked in the support files and didn't see anything about maximum current draw or anything.

Thanks!

Why bother with the IPO?

5 analogues off 1 port is too much, You'd be ok with 2 per port though.

Perhaps your business partner can advise!

Sorry for that grouchy reply, the rainy days are getting to me.

Basically I am looking for documentation of some sort. Guessing that 2 phones would be okay isn't enough. And I get tired of reading posts telling people to see their BP. Thanks for the help though.

Their is no documentation telling you how many analog phones will work on one analog port. Avaya will tell you only one phone per port of any type is supported.

Even at 2 per port if one user was on the phone the other user couldn't use their phone since there is only 1 line running both devices.

cant remember the 3 letter abbrv, but you can only have a set number of analogue devices before ringing will not occur on any connected phone. each device has its own ring number say 1, 1.5, 2, etc and the analogue port will support up to 5 for example.

what the hell is that word i am looking for?> help??

TheTaker,

REN? Ring Equivalent Number?

Thanks

Andrew

as1981 got it. REN or Ringer Approximated Loading (RAL).

thanks guys, that was doing my head in!

probably will forget in another 5 or so years when some lunatic tries splitting 5 phones off an slt port. you really want my advice, tell the customer stop being so f-in scabby, put his hand in his pocket and buy a bigger system or put on dect. does my head in when customers want the pbx to jump through hoops, make tea and give sxual favors all for under 100 quid.

it s the techs who end up paying!

1 SLT, 5 phones??

Just get an alog line from the telco and save some $$$ you'll need one anyway to connect the SOE to!

In the UK BT lines have a REN of about 4 and in general POT's have a REN of about 1. In other words, about 4 phones will ring at the same time if the wiring is done 100%.

It is a bit of guess work, so don't hold me to these figures if only 2 ring!!!!

I think IPO SLT ports have a REN of about 2.

Again, don't quote me on that.

We sell 1 phone=1SLT Port, 5 Phones=5 SLT Ports.

most of the new phones have .01 REN not lioke the old rotary with a huge capacitor in it to make the mechanical bell ring. Try it out if you like and if the port fries buy a new unit and then use both so you don't have to share them any more.

How about one port gets two phones, then the rest of the ports each get one phone. Then you'll have at least 4 telephones with their own extension number and thus a little more functionality?
