I'm running XP Pro on a peer to peer network of 6 computers. I had an error on one of the computers last week and it had to do with a corrupted area on the hard drive. It said to run chkdsk which it automatically ran when I rebooted. Ever since than however, when I go to print from within the main program we use to run our machine shop I get a dos window popup with the following:

rundll32.exe shell32.dll, SHCreateLocalServerRunDll {601ac3dc-786a-4eb0-bf40ee.... than I can't read the rest. If I stop this process nothing prints. If I let it go it takes about one whole minute to print a page. It comes up everytime that I print from this computer from this software.

I ran a full defrag Friday but the problem remains.

I would appreciate any help that anyone can provide me.

Thanks,

First thing to do is to delete and reinstall the printer drivers. But, it could be a critical file that Windows needs to print with and you may never find out. You can try to the System File checker. In the Run box type this:
sfc /scannow
It will check for changed system files and ask if you want to replace bad ones.
If neither of these work you might have to do a "Inplace Upgrade" of XP. A reinstall of Windows.

Are there any errors or further information in the Event Viewer log?

The Event Viewer is giving a DCOM error message of the following:

The server {601AC3DC-786A-4EB0-EE3521E70BFB} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout

This is happened multiple times in the event viewer.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I believe the problem was fixed using sfc /scannow, but it never asked me to replace any files, but since trying that the problem is gone.

I really appreciate your help.

Have a look in the Event Viewer for any changes made by the System File checking program.

linney,

The Event Viewer did show several file errors and replacements including the rundll32.exe file.

Thanks.
