Hi all,

We have Windows Server 2003 and Sav 10 (corporate Verison).

On a few of the workstations, after a user logs on, rtvscan.exe takes over the PC - as in 100% CPU time - and freezes it for about 4 to 5 minutes. It will eventually finish it's scan and return the PC to the user but by that time they (the user) had already found my office and started whining about it... :D

Seriously - that is a long time to tie up the machine with an initial scan...this appears to only be the case on the PCs that handle multiple users - log in and log offs. The other single user workstations don't complain about it.

I read about an issue with 8.0 but this is suppose to be a non-issue with 10 - yet there it is.

Any thoughts on a fix/workaround?

Thanks

I had the exact same issue - but only my Win 2K PCs would have the problem (My XP PCs were fine)....There is a setting on the client where you can disable StartUp Scans...this is a pain if you have alot of clients though.

I would recommend upgrading to the latest version (10.0.200 I think) which lets you disable these scans from the console.

Thank you! I'll have a look at the client and see if I can get this disabled on a couple of these Win2k boxes.

Thanks!

Thanks all.

I'm looking through the client controls and I see a few things that "could" be what I'm looking for (to disable the startup scan) but I'm also a little concerned that I might accidentally turn off all protection to that machine.

Could someone please point to the exact screen/section/checkbox to disable the startup scan only?

Thanks
Daf

Open the client
Expand User defined scans and Scheduled scans
If there is a scan called Startup Scan in either location, delete it
