Hi,

How do I restart Meridian PBX software? Can I restart the voice mail system's software wothout restarting the whole PBX software?

It will be greatly appreciated if you could give me step-by-step instructions.

On an 11C, you can remotely reload (SYSLOAD) the PBX in LD 143, using the XSL command. You can only do this on TTY 0, but it can be done. I have no idea about MerMail.

Option 61C & 81C have INT buttons and RLD buttons on the CPU card. To initialize, press the INT button on the active processor. To reload press the RLD button. The Meridian Mail system has a reset button on the processor card as well.

Typically, you do not reset a system unless required (software upgrade or the system is having problems)

The Opt !!C can be remotely initialized using the XSL command in LD 143 but requires a password.

I wouldn't reload a system unless you have a current backup.
 
If you want to restart the Meridian Mail only simply switch off the mail then back on again. Please note that you should disable the AML link first as if not will cause the PABX to INI. There is a way to restart Meridian Mail via software commands but is not something to be passed over forums. Hope this helps?

I guess I did not make my question clear.

What I really want is that when there are problems with PBX, can't figure out why and have to restart the system. I want to restart the system without swithing power off. How do I do this? Or is this the same thing as reloading software you talked above?

It is, but restarting the system will rarely resolve your problem. If this is a non-production system, I could see you using it to test stuff, verify it works, them do a data dump. Then if you make several more changes and hose the config, you could reload and "erase" your last round of changes.

The PBX is not like any PC OS, whereby a restart or reboot will fix problems. 99% of all issues are due to mis-configuration, and no amount of reboots will fix that. I KNOW others in this forum feel the same way.

You must be a transplanted Data guy like me. srmega41 is right. In the PC world if it doesn't work reboot and that normally fixes it. The telecom side is much different. It's designed to have uptimes much higher than Oh . . . a windows server. So therefore it's much harder to break. If it does break it's someones fault and you have to dig until you find it. Not good. I've only had one time where a reboot fixed it in the PBX world. I can't count how many in the data world.
 
vwtang: Also note that RLD/Reload does not mean reinstalling in the sense we have all had to "Reload" Windoze from the setup files. I would describe it as "RLD takes what is written to disk and writes it back to memory and/or the volatile parts of the system" Power is not turned off.

What is the typical problem you experience that a restart solves?
