I am temporarily filling in for the MS Office support person and I am having some issues with a Word Document. I read faq68-580 MS Office File Corruption Fixes and none of the tips and tricks worked ... this is what is happening ...
When I try to open the file I get an error message saying "The document or path is invalid" ....

Anyone know if there is anyway to recover this file?

Thanks!

I don't know how you are trying to open this document, but if you are using a shortcut or the most recent docs in Word, the document may have been moved. Try finding it through File > Open, and browse for it and see if that solves your problem.

Thanks ... I have tried every way possible to open this file including the File > Open option .... I even changed extension to .html out of desperation ... it opened ... but all the formatting was screwed up and the graphics were missing.

Try right clicking the "Open" button and open as read-only, or Open as Copy. Or change it back to html and try the Open in browser option. I am not sure these will help, but they can't hurt.

Good ideas ... didn't work as ready-only ... or as copy ... browser option opened it ... but got the same results as before (formatting is screwed up and graphics are missing). I really appreciate your suggestions ... if you have any more please do share!

Thanks much...

I was able to open the file ... After reviewing your replies I decided to try more apps with the Open With .. option ... I right clicked the file and clicked Open With ... and I was trying different MS Applications (i.e. wordpad ... notepad ... etc) It open when I clicked on Microsoft Frontpage. The graphics were there and the formatting for intact ... it looked like there may have been some extra spacing .... but at least the 8 hrs worth of work the user had put in was not a total loss ...
Just wanted to let you know!
Thanks again for your help ... have a good one!
