I read that I need to bleed off the cap in the software module using a resister rather than just shorting across it. Anyone have more detail info on this. This is a 616 Meridian and has a date stamp on it from 1992

Depending on your DR level of software, you may need to bleed the cap in the cartridge or on the main board with a 100 ohm or so resistor. The resistor is just a way of draining the capacitor(s) gracefully. However, have you looked at the debug process for password recovery or using a rad to view it?

Some folks just plain short the cap, but if it is still any good and recently charged up, it has a lot of energy and the short can cause some heat and discharge harm in a dead short that can be damaging.

If you do not have a rad available, check the debug in the FAQ section, as it is very effective and you will not risk frying anything.

Your right, I had read about shorting the cap and got hung up on doing that without looking for other options.
Thanks,

What's wrong with just doing a STARTUP? It will wipe out the database."

You need the password to do a startup, I am guessing he does not have it and why he wants to short the cap.
