I recall this post about the reset button and it looked liked it was never solved in searching the Norstar forum.
We would to do the STARTUP (Factory reset) within 15 minutes or powering up CICS, then the secret, wait for "Applying" on the display to show, then wait about 15 seconds, then pull the power plug.
You could then insert any software and it would take, no need for "gradual upgrading" when installing at a new site/lab or willing to re-program existing site.
I had a bunch of CICS's that needed testing so I thought I would give this another go.
I had a 6.1 one running so again I pressed the button for 1 second, then 10, then 30, then 60, same thing years ago where nothing happened.
I then figured it out and found that the button does the exact same thing as the STARTUP process with the secret I stated above...
Stick your needle in the hole for 2 seconds, power down, install any software you want, power up.
In using the reset button method I had downgraded the 6.1 to 4.2 then 1.0, then up to 7.1.
It just saves you going to the nearest phone, do the procedure, then having to wait before you can power down.
In testing CICS's ended up with some bad power supplies, some boards with forever flashing phones, and some where no flashing and just blank display's.
None of which I am able to fix.
Remember there is that type of button in the Callpilot 1xx too, I don't have any to test with again but I did spend an hour last time trying everything with no results.
I wonder if you were to press it when live, then recycle the power, would it do a REINSTALL??
If anyone does try it, maybe hook up to serial to view it.
