Hello.
Recently, we purchased Avaya equipment from our leasing company, at end of our lease. And we have 2 IP Office 500 V2 at two offices. One is on version 9.1.7 and other 9.0.3. My question is on upgrading the units to new versions.

The reason why because we need to integrate to our Skype for Business and have read somewhere that we need to be on R10.1 version to use Skype for Business – is this correct?

If so, what are the steps in upgrading to Version 10.1
( when we click on File – Advance – Upgrade – it shows available version is 10.1 and gives us the option to upgrade, does this mean we have the license to upgrade or need to purchase upgrade license).

Kindly, advise
Thank you.

10.1 requires PLDS licenses and today you most likely have ADI.
You'll need to buy upgrade licenses unless your system came with IPOSS which I suspect isn't the case here.

Also what do you expect to get with the integration of Skype for Business?
Even if you bought the system you most likely need to get a Business Partner involved to get upgrade licenses and explain exactly what you can get with different options regarding S4B.

Well - our office uses Skype for Business for internal office communication and use phones heavily. We want staff to be able to easily call internally using skype directory and also step a directory for clients outside of the organization to make and receive calls from the desktop. Having skype integrations will allow staff to use the desktop for many of the phone features with Bluetooth headset up, as well.

Currently, we installed Version 10 of IP Office Manager and Voice Pro V10 (one office has embedded voicemail in IP500 and other using Voice Pro server).

Can you guide me the steps of migrating the licenses from the unit (is it basically Tools - License Migration - which is a zip file from Office Manager)?
And how do i add an upgrade license 10.1 to each unit ( do i need to purchases these licenses; if so from where - we have a sold to number, if that matters)?

On the side note: We have 2 offices which rely heavily on avaya phones and we did contact 2 local Avaya business partners in past 6 months and both times we had to go our own ways to fix the problems causing havoc within offices. Well, i won't go into those details right now but our management was not happy at all....

And all we want to do at this point is to be updated to V10.1; so we can have Skype Integration.

Following is a bit more info on our units:

In manager you go to "Extra" > "License Migration" and generated a zip file.

With that zip file a busines partner can order new licenses to upgrade to R10+ ( I would go to R11 ) and additional licenses if required.

Then you will get for each site a xml license.
Upgrade the system and in Manager go to licenses and selct Add, then you must load the proper xml file te get the licenses active.

Just so you know what you get, the Skype integration won't turn your Skype client into an extension in IP Office.
You will be able to control your desk phone or softphone from Skype via the plug-in.

You can get Skype to act as a softphone but that requires Enterprise Voice for users in Skype and a Mediation Server.
I don't think there's any documentation on how to setup that in a way so it works like a true extension so you need to find someone who can.

Also don't forget Microsoft are putting their development efforts into Teams and not Skype for Business, so you would be better off looking into Teams integration. We have managed to use our Sonus SBC to link our teams and IPO, so we can dial between them.

Pepp77,
Using Sonus SBC to integrate with IPO sounds like a great idea. We have used Teams in past and it does look promising and would not mind upgrading from Skype to Teams. Is the process of setting up SOnus SBC with IPO difficult - will it require Avaya expert and upgrade license to V10 or will it work with 9.1?
Thank you.
