I haven't been able to get rid of 5 "hidden" columns in an excel sheet. Was wondering if anyone had any tips on deleting or removing the hidden attribute to these columns.

Thanks in advance!

Highlight the column directly above and directly below the hidden ones, then Tools>UnhideColumn

Tried that but the + box to hide the columns is still there, as well as the black line denoting which columns are/were hidden.

Highlighted the column before the first hidden column, as well as the column following the last hidden column - selected Unhide, but nothing happened.

So I tried highlighting the first hidden column, as well as the last hidden column - selected Unhide, but again nothing happened.

Using Excel 97.

Hi,

Click on the top left Grey square..(beside the A column) to select the entire sheet.

Go to Format, Column, Unhide.
If this option is greyed out..the sheet/workbook is protected and needs to be unprotected to make the change.
Tools, Protection, Unprotect sheet.

but it's important to be nice :)

Also try Format - Column - Autofit after selecting the entire sheet. Columns may not be hidden, just sized down.

You said "..the + box to hide the columns is still there, as well as the black line denoting which columns are/were hidden"
This makes me think that you are actually dealing with grouping and outlining rather than 'simple' hiding, so:

Highlight columns on either side, Data,GroupandOutline,Ungroup

Hope this helps,

Gavona

Good one, Gavona, I didn't catch that. Bet'cha you're right!

Brilliant!
I was so confused as to why the unhide wasn't working.

Thanks Gavona!

I know your problem has been solved....

As a sanity check for next time.If you have hidden columns (or rows) you would have a gap in the letering(or numbers).

Such as-
Code:
  A|B|D|E|G|
1
-
2
-
6

When the group was closed, there was a gap in the lettering - which is why I started off on the whole hidden thing. I'll know for next time though - thanks!
