Remote Desktop stopped working...

Win98 PC connected via Remote Desktop Connection to Win2003 server suddenly stopped working. Used to work, now responds with "...remote connection has timed-out...". User claims no knowledge of any change to PC (right...). Other PCs (Win98 & WinXP) connect fine; User (account) connects fine via other PCs.

Any ideas of what could cause this? ...or how to troubleshoot it?

Thanks,
Pete

1) Has the IP or subnet mask changed?
2) Has the DNS suffix changed - I found that mine sometimes decides to reset itself to the default mshome.net
3) Can this PC connect to any other PC?

xwb,

Thanks. Good ideas. Here are more comments:

1) No known changes to IP subnet (but I'll double check...)
2) Good point. I'll check that also
3) Yes. Connectivity if fine, at low levels & application levels.

If you have more ideas please let me know. Thanks again for your help.

Pete

Solved. The PC's "Computer Name" had been unexpectedly changed ('how' is unknown...).

Thanks for your help.

Did you have automatic upgrades switched on? I found that some automatic upgrades

1) change the computer's name
2) change the workgroup name
3) change the DNS suffix
4) change the subnet mask
5) change the messaging service settings
6) switch on your most hated explorer features

All of the above have happened to me at some point in the last 11 years!
