Hi all,

I was just looking into a request for someone to show their first name only on outbound calls and I was wondering if there is any regulations or guidlines for outbound caller ID in Canada or the US?

Can you display anything you want?

Thx

In the US it varies state to state. These regulations are set by the public utility boards in each state and are stricter than the federal regulations.

The latest survey shows that 3 out of 4 people make up 75% of the population.

The original point and click interface was a Smith & Wesson.

Check with your local PSAP. They should be able to provide the answer for you.

Here in Canada we have the CRTC. I tried to search their site but its all over the place. What is a local PSAP?

A PSAP is a Public Safety Answer Point. Not sure they would be able to advise youon CLID for non-E911 calls.

Generally speaking, you can only send a valid CLID for your company, or someone else's with their consent. In any case sending someone else's CLID without their permission may get you into trouble.

What ever you do, make sure your E911 CLID is accurate!!

another source of information is your provider.. if they have fed regs they may not be allowed to pass casual entries.. depending on the setup (carrier level) they will either not route calls or route without clids

Ususally your 911 CLID is set by the LEC and this doesn't change, regardless of what your CLID tables look like.

As far as sending out the correct caller ID, I work from home so I get tons of Marketing calls daily to my home line and I have seen just about every type of CLID sent to my phone. So that would make me think that there are no restrictions on what can be sent.

Unless you are a legitimate financial institution. Then you have to send not only the name of your business, but a number that can be called back.

We did this programming for Bank of America when that rule came into effect. We had to go to each branch and make sure the CLID was correct to a home number.

Hope this helps.

This is entirely Dependant on the programing of your specific trunk group at the CO. CLID is commonly used for E911 location resolution out of PBX systems. In some cases, you are correct, the LEC does not honor the CLID sent as ANI. Verizon seems to be the most CLID friendly. On my system, I can send any CLID I want for either E.164 or E911 calls and the CLID I send is honored as ANI.

Some providers make you purchase their PS-ALI service to do this. The most common on is AT&T in the BellSouth area. In that region you MUST purchase PINPOINT to have the LEC honor your E911 CLID as ANI.

Can someone comment on my E911 programming? Here is a print out:

ENTRY 0
HNTN 416
ESA_HLCL
ESA_INHN NO
ESA_APDN YES
HLCL 640
DIDN YES
HLOC
LSC
CLASS_FMT DN

It looks like it isnt programmed correctly....

You are right.

You will only send the DN on ESA calls.

Changes are below:

Code:
ENTRY 0
  HNTN 416
  ESA_HLCL [!]640[/!]
  ESA_INHN [!]YES[/!]
  ESA_APDN YES
  HLCL 640
  DIDN YES
  HLOC
  LSC
  CLASS_FMT DN

This will send the full 10 digit CLID on ESA calls. This is true as long as ESA is set-up correctly in your system in LD 24, and AC1+911 is built as an SPN that has LTERM = YES in the RLI.

Ok, the PBX is setup so that you have to dial 9+911

Does this mean that the ESA portion of the above programming is not needed?

Switch only sends numbers not Names. The LEC adds those.
