Having an issue with a Dell Inspiron 5100 with XP Pro. The user apprently installed some Kodak digital camera software then all the sudden got a BSOD on the next reboot. The BSOD is a REGISTRY_ERROR with STOP code 0x00000051.
The machine won't boot in Safe Mode nor will it revert to Last Known Good Configuration - get the same BSOD every time. So I booted from the XP Pro CD to try a Repair/Recovery. Before it even gets to the recovery console the BSOD appears. So I decided to try running Windows setup - same thing - BSOD. The CD will load all the way up until the screen where you choose either Setup or Repair/Recovery. The BSOD appears after you accept the License Agreement when trying to run Setup. On Recovery, it appears when you choose C: as the drive you wish to repair.
Any suggestions as to where I should go from here? I used a CD-Based Linux OS (Knoppix) and was able to recover all the files I needed from the drive, so I'm not worried about losing anything. The partitions are obviously still there as I was able to access C: from within Knoppix. Just keep getting the BSOD no matter what I try in Windows.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
