Redirect a Mailbox to another Mailbox

I have a VMX200 with a Nortel 81C PBX. I have a user with main ext. 2974 and second ext of 6454. Currently if a caller dials 6454 the VMX states the mailbox is invalid. How can I build a mailbox for 6454 and have the messages dump directly into the mailbox for 2974?

One possible solution is Digit Translation in the Trans(lation) table.
Or create another mailbox 6454, copy the greeting (if required) and 'autocopy' to 2974.
You can copy the exact greeting if required by saving to floppy and restoring to another mailbox. (This is useful if you have some special greetings recorded for an application and they need to ported to another system or there is a number change etc.)

I am new to the 200 systems. Can you tell me how to do your second option and create a mailbox 6454 with 'autocopy'? How exactly do you setup autocoy?

When you connect to the system:
from the @ prompt type up to get to the .prompt

type add user:
.A USER
the system will respond with
.Add
add the user as mailbox No, Extn No, COS where COS is Class Of Service. This could be the same as the 2974.
.6454,6454,5 {return}
the system will respond with
.Add
Press return again and then type Exit to return to the @ prompt
From a phone access the mailbox and follow the prompts to set the autocopy mailbox. From memory it is 164 from 'ready'

Of course this assumes that COS 5 (in this example) allows autocopy. To check, from the . prompt type l cos:
.L COS 5

It is also possible to modify a mailbox autocopy from the system manager terminal, but of the top of my head I can't remember the exact command. I think it may be:
@M MBX AC

As an extra thought:
Autocopy is actually shorthand for Autocopy/Autodelete in that the message is copied to the target mailbox and then deleted from the original. There are 2 COS attributes for this as it is possible to have the message copied AND retained in the original.
To list ALL the possible COS attributes:
.L COS A
to add a new attribute to an existing COS:
.A COS 5(if 5 is the one you want to add to.)
the system responds with
.Add
enter the COS attribute number here. Press return when finished.

Thanks... Jon. Worked like a charm. In addition, a buddy called me and told me about a Phantom Mailbox. Do you know about these and how they interact?

Phantom mailboxes are really for the Fax Application. They are used when a user has a personal fax number and are used to store the actual fax message (as a sound file!). This message then 'appears' in the users normal mailbox as another message: "You have 2 new, 1 fax and 3 saved messages; ready". The users are unaware of this phantom mailbox, and cannot access it direct.

Some of the commands etc on the old VMX200 are a little archaic, but as I have said elsewhere in this forum, I believe it is still the most robust, reliable voice processor available. There is little that it cannot do compared to the current fad for PC based systems without the inherent instability that is in all Microsoft software (allegedly).

The last four lines of your last post as just as true as written. After working 13 years with VMX/OCTEL products, I can still say that these products are state-of-the-art products and still years after years running stable and with no problems at all.
