Recycle Bin Icon Changes

My Norton Protected Recycle Bin icon keeps changing and adopting the qualities of something else - usually a recently downloaded software. It is simple enough to change it back but is this symptomatic of something more problematic? Thanks!

I'm probably a bit prejudiced against Norton products - especially the Recycle Bin stuff...

It sounds like you might have been hit by a virus though I could be wrong - check here:

The Sircam virus likes to hide out in the Recycle Bin...

Just a hunch, mind you!

Someone suggested a while back in some forum that you go to Display Properties -> Effects, tick 'Use Large Icons', then untick it. This worked for me on NT so hopefully it should work on 95\98.

The only thing is, this was a solution for when all icons changed.

is it just the recycle bin icon that changes? or is it more, like jpg file icons and zip drive icons? if it's more than just the recycle bin icon, then it might be that your icon cache is not set high enough. there is an article on microsoft's website that can help. check on support.microsoft.com for an article titled:
"Icons Randomly Change to Different Icons (Q132668)"

i've had this problem off and on. it's not especially serious. good luck!
