I read that in R6, VCM licenses have been removed but I am a little confused if they have been replaced with something else. Is there something else that a customer would need to purchase to maintain Avaya IP phone connectivity? I would hate to have a customer purchase VCM licenses in the upcoming weeks if they are a waste of money when R6 comes out.

Thanks!

So there will be a new license requirement for ip phones?

Each VCM channel licence will give you three Avaya IP endpoint licences (yes even Avaya handsets need licences in R6) so you get 12 with the card then for each VCM licence you have x3 :)

So are the Avaya IP endpoint licenses the ones that already exist for 3rd party only or is there a new part # for these new ip endpoints?

New, all will be revealed shortly, I have probably said too much already :)

Do not like. I wish they would stop messing with licensing just to make things "easier"

The more money they can squeeze from licensing the better in Avaya's eyes, to customers/us it just makes you feel like you are getting ripped off as let's face it I'll bet it ends up costing more than before. (Forget migration for a minute, this is for new) As you only needed enough licences for IP to line or IP to TDM which was usually covered by 8 - 10 licences for 30 - 40 user systems, now you will need many more :)

But they had it right at the start, the IP office became so well liked and popular because of that and coupled with the fact it was good value for money, now they charge more and more for hardware (which is now made cheaper and less reliable), they are starting to licence everything and I heard a very disturbing rumour today about the IP office SSU costing and minimum order level, all in all not good :)
