R3 Backup to R4

As I recall, I had an issue trying to use a backup made on an R3 to a newer processor. Is there a way to do it or am I remembering wrong? Can I take a backup/restore card from an R# and load it on an R4. If not what can I do?

So how does a customer who had an r3 with a backup ever go to a newer processor? On the MAgix you can converty the database as I'm sure you know. Avaya has made no facility for this? It appears the audio pairs of all the station ports on the card are blown out, but I can still get into programming. If I take and r4,5 or 6 backup and restoe I could upgrade and then back up? Then take the backup and move it to the new card? Is this Avaya's procedure?

I find that if i have had to do this before i will just put an old phone next to the new phone and go step by step thru the programming. It usually dosent take too long to reprogram.

This is a big (as Partners go) complicated system shared by 3 companies with lines ringing all over. If I have to do that I will but if I can find a more efficient way I will.

Unlike the Merlin Magix, there is no way to transfer programming between 2 different revisions of the Partner ACS.

Use the Remote Access software to download the translations of the old R3. That way you will have a complete reference while programming the R4.

I carry an ACSR6 upgrade card with me at all times. What I do is upgrade the old processor to R6 then back it up and restore it to the new processor. The upgrade is non-volatile. I pretty much upgrade all my good customers when I work on their systems for free and new customers for a small extra fee.

I have run into the same problem with a few of my customers. Here is the easiest way to solve this upgrade problem.

1. Make sure you have a good backup of your existing processor - if it will power up.

2. Verify the SW version - press the [feature] button then 59 from any phone on the system w/ an LCD display. Write down the exact version - R3.01 - R3.03 etc.

3. Order a replacement ACS processor that has that SW load on it and order an ACS one-time upgrade card to whatever version you want to move up to - R6.0 w/ DST patch is recommended.

4. Swap out the old processor - restore your old programming from your backup card then power down - insert the upgrade card - and power back on and your processor will be running the latest SW load w/ ALL your existing programming carried over.

We have had good luck buying the ACS processors and upgrade card from the guys at Drew Telecom Group in Michigan and also Metroline but there are others that probably offer these components.

Ron,

There is no Avaya part # for a "unlimited" ACS upgrade PC Card as Avaya never sold or authorized them. There are a few guys out there who make them. Some sell them on EBAY for a couple $100 dollars.
