I am on a Windows2000 server. I am running Oracle 8.1.7. My ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID system variables are properly set. I have checked my Windows "Users & Groups" settings and my login ("Administrator") is a member of the ORA_DBA group.

Given all of this, when I run "svrmgrl" and "connect internal", it asks for a "Password:"; if I run "sqlplus /nolog" and "connect / as sysdba", it responds with "insufficient privileges".

I am on a severe time crunch. Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks, DBtoo, for the suggestion. I tried it to no avail. When I have seen this in the past, it has been because of an operating-system-login-permissions issue. But this time, I have confirmed that the o/s login is a member of the ORA_DBA group.

Still hoping for help. Thanks.

Actually, even "Ask Tom" did not have the solution...it turns out that the problem was a missing line in the SQLNET.ora file:
Code:
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=(NTS)
Once I added that line to the sqlnet.ora file, I was able to "connect / as sysdba" from "sqlplust /nolog" and to "connect internal" in "svrmgrl".

Thanks, DBToo, for your willingness to help.

Cool, Mom. Thanks for sticking with it until you tracked down the solution, then posting the solution. I'm sure it will be helpful to someone suffering from the same problem. I wouldn't have thunk of sqlnet.ora being the culprit.

Hmmm, in the link I posted, Tom had suggested that they remove that line from sqlnet.ora??? I guess it was a different problem.
