If you happen to be using a 358X IBM LTO Tape Library with IBM LTO Tape Drive, and we are running TSM 5.2.
We should be using the IBM Ultrium device driver.
Since we are using a non-IBM library / tape drive we should be using the TSM device driver. During the installation of the TSM Server did we install the TSM device driver?
What I mean by non-IBM, the tape library/drive is by some other company other than IBM like Sony, Quantum, STK....
Check out the Quick Start Guide and/or the TSM Admin Guide. It may give you some hints about defining the library/drives.
First of all, are you able to access the tape library / tape drive via the operating system?
If the operating system can not access the tape library / tape drive, the TSM Server is not going to be able to access the library or the tape drive either.
At what point are we recieving the I/O error message?
Is it when we defining the path for the library?
Defining the drive? Defining the path for the drive?
Since the operating system is able to access the library and drive(s) without any problems, this eliminate connectivity between the library/drive(s) and the operating system.
Since I am not sure what syntax was use to define the path.
