Hi,
does anyone no if a manual drive Quantum DLT4000 is supported by TSM on Linux?
I get an I/O error when defining a path to the drive.

Cheers

Noone?

I've also tried my DDS2 DAT drive but still get and I/O error. Are they better supported on AIX?

Cheers

Thankyou for that.

This line looks like it's supported so what am I doing wrong? It's not an IBM device so what do you mean by "using the TSM driver"?

Cheers

If you happen to be using a 358X IBM LTO Tape Library with IBM LTO Tape Drive, and we are running TSM 5.2.
We should be using the IBM Ultrium device driver.

Since we are using a non-IBM library / tape drive we should be using the TSM device driver. During the installation of the TSM Server did we install the TSM device driver?

What I mean by non-IBM, the tape library/drive is by some other company other than IBM like Sony, Quantum, STK.... :)

Check out the Quick Start Guide and/or the TSM Admin Guide. It may give you some hints about defining the library/drives.

First of all, are you able to access the tape library / tape drive via the operating system?
If the operating system can not access the tape library / tape drive, the TSM Server is not going to be able to access the library or the tape drive either.

At what point are we recieving the I/O error message?
Is it when we defining the path for the library?
Defining the drive? Defining the path for the drive?

Hi,
The drive works fine from the OS.

I get the error when defining the path for the drive (and library). I have defined everything else.

I'm stuck.

Cheers

Since the operating system is able to access the library and drive(s) without any problems, this eliminate connectivity between the library/drive(s) and the operating system.

Since I am not sure what syntax was use to define the path.

Here is how the path for the library should be define:

DEFINE PATH servername libname SRCTYPE=SERVER DESTTYPE=LIBRARY DEVICE=device

Here is the syntax to define the drive:
DEFINE DRIVE libname drivename ELEMENT=element

Here is the syntax to define the path for the drive:
DEFINE PATH servername drivename SRCTYPE=SERVER DESTTYPE=DRIVE
LIBRARY=libname DEVICE=device

Since we are using a Quantum DLT4000 tape library, should be using the TSM Device Driver.

Good Luck,
Sias
