I have a PC (Dell Dimension 2350) that I applied a RIS image to. The image was the wrong one. When I tried to apply the right image from the LAN I get the PXE-E61 "Media Test Failure Please Check Cable." The PC exits the PXE and then boots up from the hdd. I did upgrade the BIOS to the latest release, but it didn't help. The cable is fine and other pc's can boot from the LAN.

Any Ideas,
John

Try 'zeroing' the drive out first. This will get you to bare metal status.

Recheck the BIOS is set to boot from LAN, and that the Ethernet port is enabled. You could also try a complete reset of the BIOS (mobo jumper?), and then set up parameters again from scratch.

I might try zeroing out the drive, but I am not sure if it will make a difference.

In the BIOS I did reset everything back to the defaults. I am pressing F12 to boot from LAN, but I will change the boot sequence, so LAN is listed as first.

Thanks,
John

I fixed it by switching out an IDE cable from a known working pc. Go figure.

Thanks again,
John

Correction it only worked once. I am just going to install from CD and add the programs one at a time.
