I'm trying to set up a computer, I have everything together and when I start up the machine I get this error message:

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable.
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE.ROM.
Boot Failure: System Halted.

I have tried new IDE cables, A different hard drive, Floppy drive, CD-ROM, a different hard drive, I had two sticks of Ram, I removed one and tried it, replaced it with the other one, and I still cannot get passed this error.

I had a hard drive with Windows XP already installed and I hooked it up to the motherboard, this time I didn't get that error, but it would keep restarting, it would run until it got to Mup.sys and then it would stop and restart, and it would continue to do this.

It is like it is not reading the Windows CD in the drive, it shows up in the BIOS, and the light is blinking, but it never starts the windows installation.

Help! I don't know what else to do!

Post some more information on your machine, esp. motherboard type, HDD.
Anyway, I'd try first to see if there are any bios upgrades for your motherboard.

I got it up and running, I had to install Windows NT, luckily I had the program, from what I have read the PXE error is becasue the computer is tring to reach a network, and when it doesn't it gives you this error. It just seems to bypass everything just to get to the network.

Thank you for your help anyways.

- Check the boot order in BIOS and ensure that the CD-ROM drive is in the mix.

- Try another XP CD that has been known to boot successfully

- Create a boot disk with CD-ROM support ( Does the CD-ROM drive get recognize by DOS? If so, you could trying installing XP by making the CD-ROM drive the active drive, enter CD \I386, enter WINNT
Be sure SMARTDRV is loaded prior to this...
