First I would like to say that I love this forum, and it's helped me so much the last few weeks it's not even funny. I've recently inherited the responsibility of managing our old Nortel phone system here and have zero experience with these systems in the past and this forum has been priceless. I never even have to ask a question, everything's usually covered by a quick search and spot on.

Anyhow, so this system is currently configured to give you an outside line if you dial 9, or 88. Both are currently working successfully. Users have all been instructed to use 88 for outside lines, but very few of them actually do so. I've been tasked with disabling the ability to dial 9 due to too many accidental 911 calls. From what I understand there may be better options for preventing the 911 calls but management does not want to entertain them at the moment (if you have suggestions anyway I'm all ears). My problem is that I don't know the programming or settings to execute the 9 option. I also want to be sure I don't hinder the ability to actually dial 911 if needed. Any help is appreciated.

if you have loop start trunks
Login and remove 9 for external and any line pool codes with 9

If you have a Pri just look for the destination code 9 and remove it

OK bear with me as I'm an extreme novice still. We do have a PRI. I'm not finding anything referencing a destination code in the programming though, perhaps I'm in the wrong area?

OK, I found it under Routing service, but there are about 80 of them in there and I don't see any references to 9 or 88. Lots of them appear to be our direct dial last four digits. Am I in the right place?

under services is destination codes
you do not want routing

under services is destination codes
you do not want routing

Under Services I have
Ringing service
Restrn service
Routing service
Common settings

In Routing service is where I see Dest codes menu.

keep looking under routing services you will find it dont be afraid to keep pressing that next button or show button

Delete all the Destination Codes unless it matches the 88 as you describe. If there are no 88 destination codes, then this is the POOL ACCESS code for your lines and you will not find this in the DESTINATION CODES, because you find it in the POOL ACCESS codes within SYSTEM PROGRAMMING.

cook, we can't have that as people would be under enough stress in a situation I don't want them to have to dial 88 first.

Brewsky, I don't see anything set in Pool Access at all, but I'm not really understanding the Destination Codes either. When I enter programming in Destination Codes this is what I see:
Show DstCode:_
Add

I'll hit the lower-right button and it'll list the first one (there are dozens):
DstCode:401>
Add Find Remove

Upper-right button gives me:
Normal:590>
Change

Upper-right again gives me:
AbsorbLength:All
Change

Back to DstCode:401> lower-right button scrolls through respectively:
Night:None>
Evening:None>
Lunch:None>
Sched 4:None>
Sched 5:None>
Sched 6:None>

Upper-right button gives me the same AbsorbLenght:All option on all of those.

Three place to check:
1.
Show DstCode:_

Enter 9

2.
As for Pool Access that is under sets, you want to look under Access Codes, in there it will show codes for each pool.

3.
Also check in same place for External Code.

1.
Show DstCode:_

Enter 9

***When I enter 9 it seems to sit waiting for another digit. I get a BKSP softkey menu item, but the upper-right menu doesn't appear (show or whatever that option is). Lower-right button of course just browses to the first one which is DstCode:401>. It goes from there to 4662, 4663, 4664, etc which are my direct dial numbers and there are some 800's mixed in there somewhere.***

2.
As for Pool Access that is under sets, you want to look under Access Codes, in there it will show codes for each pool.

***In Access Codes there is a Line Pool Codes menu. In there I have Line pool A:None, Line pool B:None... All the options are None up to Line pool K:66 and then the rest after that are None.***

3.
Also check in same place for External Code.

***Extrnl code:None is what it's set on***

you wont de able to use 9 if you have DID's that start with 9

curly, I don't think I can Show 9, it doesn't seem to give me the option. If I put in DstCode:99> and hit Show (that's the upper-right yes) then I get a menu that says Normal:009> with a Change softkey under it. Show again lists AbsorbLength:All

When you are in Dest codes you can list them by hiting the next key. When you enter the 9 and it's waiting press the next key - second button down on right and you will see the codes. It is using 99 with aan absorbed of 1 .

Looks to me like the code is 99 and it is using rout 9 to go out on. Not sure who set this up but if you have dozens of Desti codes then somebody was doing some major manipulating. How do dial out right now 9 or 99 or 88?

cook, when I do that it just scrolls through the dozens of dest codes that are in there.

hawks, both 9 and 88 will work for dialing external numbers right now.
